Flydubai relaunches flights to Sulaymaniyah

With the restart of flights to Sulaymaniyah, Flydubai will operate flights to five destinations in Iraq.

Dubai, UAE. Dubai-based Flydubai today announced the restart of flights to Sulaymaniyah from May 10, 2018. Thus, the airline will operate flights to five destinations in Iraq, including Baghdad, Basra, Erbil and Najaf. The decision to restart the flight followed an announcement by the Iraqi authorities to reopen the airport in March 2018.

Flydubai is the first airline from the UAE to operate direct flights to the Kurdish city, offering flights from Dubai to Sulaymaniyah International Airport twice a week. The frequency of flights will increase to three per week starting in June 2018.

FZ205 / 206 flights will be operated between Terminal 2 of Dubai International Airport and Sulaymaniyah International Airport on Thursdays and Sundays. Sulaymaniyah will become the 92nd code-sharing destination with Emirates.

Commenting on the restart of flights to Sulaymaniyah, Gate Al Gate, executive director of Flydubai, said: “We are pleased that direct flights between the UAE and Sulaymaniyah are returning after a three-year hiatus. Flydubai first opened flights to the Kurdish city in 2010, and we observed positive demand for flights from this region. We hope to continue to strengthen our route network in Iraq, one of the key markets that is currently experiencing increased investment, trade and tourism. "

Sulaymaniyah's economy now relies on tourism, the agricultural sector and the growing number of small and medium-sized enterprises, mainly involved in the construction sector. The city also houses the second largest museum after the Baghdad National Museum, where you can get acquainted with Kurdish and ancient Persian artifacts dating back to 1792-1750 BC. e.

The airline operates 46 flights a week to Iraq and is an important market for Flydubai. Thanks to the airline’s base airport in Dubai, passengers from Iraq have access to a wide network of routes in Europe, Asia, India and Russia.

Flydubai recently announced the launch of flights to Helsinki in Finland and made its first flights to Dubrovnik in Croatia, Krakow in Poland and Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Return fares (round-trip) from Dubai to Suleimaniya start from 6,500 dirhams in business class and from 1,500 dirhams in economy class. Return flights from Sulaymaniyah to Dubai start at $ 1,500 in business class and from $ 370 in economy class.
