Uber removes over a ton of e-waste from Dubai’s freezone in two days

Uber helped remove more than a ton of electronic waste from the free economic zones of Dubai.

Following a successful initiative to mark World Environment Day in Dubai last year, Uber and Averda once again decided to take e-waste out of the Dubai freezers.

This year, Dubai Media City (DMC) has been added to Dubai Internet City (DIC) and Dubai Science Park (DSP).

From June 20 to 21, Uber took out about a ton of waste, including radios, televisions and music players. In support of the initiative, three business parks were invited to share photos of their participation in the action and tell what recycling meant to them.

Companies and residents used the UberRECYCLE service in the app. Uber drivers collected e-waste from these business parks and delivered it to Averda, a recycling company.

Ammar Al Malik, Executive Director of Dubai Internet City, said: “As a leading technology business community, we are committed to raising awareness of the role of recycling and its positive impact on our society.”

Marwan Abdulaziz Janahi, Managing Director of DSP, said: "In the modern world, waste management and recycling play an extremely important role in the global issue of environmental protection and sustainability."

Majed Al Suwaydi, Managing Director of Dubai Media City, said: "We are pleased to participate in the collection of e-waste this year, which contributes to the UAE's transition to a green economy."
