UAE residents found mass dependence on smartphones

Residents of the United Arab Emirates spend most of their free time with smartphones, the study found.

More than a thousand residents of the United Arab Emirates participated in a survey aimed at establishing habits in the use of smartphones. According to the results of the YouGov / Omnibus study, it turned out that on average a resident of the UAE spends six hours a day with his smartphone.

Women spend an hour more on mobile devices than men. 43 percent of respondents say they spend more time on text messages or messaging through social networks than on real conversations with interlocutors.

Doctors are worried about an alarming trend, in particular, that adults spend more time on smartphones than talking with young children, which may hinder the development of language and social skills in babies.

A recent YouGov survey conducted in early November shows that 9 out of 10 respondents in the UAE own smartphones, with 70 percent of those who do not own any devices planning to buy it.

Not surprisingly, young people spend more time on devices than the older generation. Between the ages of 18 and 29, the use of smartphones reaches an average of 7 hours a day.

76 percent of respondents admitted that they pick up phones before going to bed while in bed, and 72 percent of respondents start their morning with a smartphone. 20 percent use devices even while watching movies. 21% of emirates allow their phone to be used while driving. Men are more often distracted by mobile screens while on the road than women.

Facebook is the most popular social network in the country. It is followed by YouTube and Instagram. Facebook and YouTube are more popular among men, while Instagram and Snapchat are more popular among women.
